Pattaya is in Thailand probably after Bangkok the place where there is the largest choice of sports to practise. For the Muay Thai lovers, there is many camps to trained (e.g. Fairtex Muay Thai Sportclub, Tony's Muay Thai Academy...) or a professionnal stadium to enjoy watching the fights (Thepprasit Muay Thai Stadium). Those who prefer the Motorsports, there is many kart circuits is town (e.g. Pattaya Kart Speedway, Siam Karting Circuit...) or if it's not enough, an ATV and Motorcross circuit opened recently (A.N. ATVs & Motorcross) and of course if you want to experiment the thrill of a Formula Renault, Bhira International Circuit Race Course isn't that far from Pattaya. On the side of the Extremes sports, Bunjee Jumping (e.g. The Jungle Bungy Jump) and Sky diving (e.g. Pattaya Air Park) are also available. The sports the most represented in town are the Golf (e.g. Driving Range, Phoenix Golf Course...) and the indoor and outdoor Bowling (e.g. Bowling PLUS, Pattaya Lawn Bowling...) but the Water sports because of the beach nearby are of course not to forget. Jetskiing and paragliding can be practise almost at every beaches but there is also cable skiing (e.g. The Lakeland Water Cable Ski), diving, fishing and sailing (e.g. Ocean Marina Yacht Club and Resort, Royal Varuna Yacht Club...). It should be quicker in fact to list what is not possible to practice in Pattaya because as far as I know, I couldn't find any. |

General knowledge
MakrukMakruk is a Thai version of the Chess. Here and in Cambodia, this game is more popular than the western Chess version. The origin of the Makruk come from an Indian boardgame from the 6th century known as Chaturanga which is the common ancestor of all the Chess games.
Muay BoranMuay Boran is the ancient form of Thai boxing. It was taught by Buddhist monks who were guardians of the spiritual and practical arts. All body parts were used during combat, especially the knees and elbows, which allows for close combat with the other opponent. Today, it's really hard to find a school teaching it due to the fact that many moves are prohibited in modern Muay Thai.
TakrawTakraw (aka kick volleyball) is a sport played in Thailand but also in the other countries of the Southeast Asia. It ressemble to the volleyball but it's played with the feet, knees, chest and head instead of the hands. The ball used is the size of a melon and made of weaved rattan or synthetic fibers for the modern version. |
